 IKEA Braga. Swedish brand opens 4th unit in Portugal



IKEA opened the fourth store in Portugal, this time in Braga. The opening of the store with 22 000 m2 was attended by the minister of Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, the Swedish ambassador to  Portugal, Caroline Fleetwood, the president da Câmara Municipal de Braga, Ricardo Rio and Director  for IKEA Portugal, Christiane Thomas.

 Swedish textile delegation to Portugal



From the 7th to 10th of  November 2015 visited Swedish textile delegation Porto in northern Portugal. The visit is a follow up of the state visit by the President of Portugal Anibal Cavaco Silva held in Sweden in October in 2013.
The delegation consists of 13 companies, including the Swedish Fashion Council and innovation environment Smart Textiles in Borås.
 Swedish textile companies show increasing interest in Portugal, both for production and market sales, says Ambassador Caroline Fleetwood. In addition, the Portuguese textile world-class research which could be of great interest to Swedish research in the textile sector.
The program began with a visit to the Textile Research Institute CITEVE. The program also includes business to business calls, company visits to textile producers, seminars about the connection between nanotechnology and textiles, and a presentation of the Swedish fashion industry which is the fastest growing industry in Sweden right now.


The head of the research institute CITEVE highlighted in his speech, several areas in which Portugal is a world leader and where there are opportunities to initiate cooperation with Swedish companies and research institutes.
The head of the small business department of Portugal's Export AICEP took off in his opening address, among other things, Portugal as a strategic partner for Swedish company with a focus on environmental awareness, innovation, and quality.
Business Sweden launched during the visit, the first cluster of companies in the creative industries, SymbioCreate, with a particular focus on Portugal.



This was the second time that the Swedish Embassy in Lisbon in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, the Portuguese Trade Council AICEP and Business Sweden implements visit by a Swedish textile delegation to Portugal.

The number of participating companies and organizations were more than at last. This year we wanted to treat our participants to a tasty bite of Swedish innovative gastronomy.

A small summary of the event The Volvo Ocean Race

The Volvo Ocean Race, the largest regatta around the world and one of the world's top three nautical events, arrived in Lisbon and during the days of 25 May and 7 June, turned Pedrouços dock in a top place to visit.
The Lisbon Race Village was a special place created for the public and offered a special opportunity for the people to see the sailors, boats and the whole structure of a competition like the Volvo Ocean Race. Fantastic free entertainment: concerts, ceremonies, celebrity appearances, and activities within the Volvo Ocean Race Experience were to be expected. Many stands of different kinds and different attractions for all ages were to see all around the village
With the special visit of the Crown Princess Victoria from Sweden, the event turned extra special. Crown Princess's first day in Lisbon began at the Academia das Ciências the Lisbon where the Academy of Sciences president Prof. Luís Aires-Barros was waiting for her. The Academy was founded by Queen Mary I in 1779 with the aim to promote and encourage scientific research.

Hosted by Caroline Fleetwood, Swedish ambassador to Portugal, a working lunch was held at the residence.

    Chef Jimmy Leon from the residence of the Ambassador of Sweden, Caroline Fleetwood had the honour of the visit of the more and more well.-known The chef from Restaurant Mrs. Brown in Malmö Jorgen Lloyd. Together they served the dinner for the 30 prominent guests in honour of the State visit of the President of Portugal Anibal Cavaco Silva to Sweden. This dinner marked as well the beginning of the Swedish gastronomy week that will be hosted at the Bistro 100 Maneiras in Lisbon until the 28 of September.
